New York's landmark Plaza Hotel will reopen its doors on May 20, more than a year after closing due to the pandemic in late March 2020.

In a message on its website, the Fairmont-managed property announced that it is currently taking reservations.

Located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, the 282-room Plaza Hotel has been a fixture of New York's luxury hospitality scene since its debut in 1907.

The Plaza is one of several high-profile New York hotels unveiling reopening plans as the city's tourism sector shows signs of a rebound.

The 873-room Westin New York at Times Square announced it has reopened, while the 253-room Ritz-Carlton Central Park has set June 2 as its official reopening date.

Earlier this month, both the Mandarin Oriental New York and Park Hyatt New York also resumed operations.

This week, New York mayor Bill DeBlasio said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program on Thursday that he expects to reopen the city at "full strength" by July 1.
